Is your company up to the challenge? Join us for the fifth annual Corporate Cup!

What is the Corporate Cup? The Corporate Cup is a series of competitive events promoting physical fitness and friendly competition among the business community. Teams will battle for points in activities such as basketball, rock climbing, tug of war, and more! The event is open to all employees and fitness levels.

Who can participate in the Corporate Cup? All Chamber member businesses. Teams will be comprised of up to 15 male and female participants. The cost to participate is $200 per team.

When should I register? The registration deadline is April 30. An extra 100 points will be awarded to teams who register by March 30. Companies may have more than one team. Space is limited and pre-registration is required, so sign up today!

Please indicate which division you would like to participate in when you register your team online. Both divisions will be awarded prizes.

The Minnesota legislature has passed significant legislation that will impact your business. Plan to attend the Minnesota legislative wrap-up with key lawmakers and special guests providing what you need to know about what happened during the 2013 session.

First, hear from Tim Flaherty and Mike Miller from Flaherty and Hood will review the 2013 session.

Tim Flaherty is an attorney with over 30 years of lobbying and legal experience at the Minnesota State Legislature. Tim specializes in state tax and budget issues, economic development, environmental, and land use law.

Tim’s strategic thinking and expertise in finance issues have established him as a key player at the Minnesota Legislature. He has been instrumental in securing tax and appropriations benefits for many clients, including the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities and the City of Moorhead.

Mike Miller just finished his first session as a Senior Lobbyist with Flaherty and Hood, focusing on economic development through the Greater Minnesota Economic Development Partnership. Prior to joining the firm, he was the Government Affairs Director for the Minnesota Grocers Association, working on issues that affect small businesses across the state. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.

Senator Kent Eken, (D) District 4
Senator Kent Eken is an experienced legislator representing District 4 of Moorhead. Prior to redistricting, Eken spent eight years as a Representative from District 2. Sen. Eken serves on the Jobs, Agriculture and Rural Development committee and multiple Finance committees including Health and Human Services Division and Higher Education and Workforce Development Division

Representative Ben Lien, (D) District 4A
Representative Ben Lien is a first term legislator. He serves as the Vice-Chairman for the Property and Local Tax Division committee while also serving on the Government Operations, Higher Education Finance and Policy and the Judiciary Finance and Policy committees. Rep. Lien is committed to increasing Border City legislation for the City of Moorhead through zoning projects and Capital Investment projects.

Representative Paul Marquart, (D) District 4B
Representative Paul Marquart is serving his seventh term and serves as Chairman for the Education Finance committee and also serves on the Education Policy, Property and Local Tax Division, Taxes and Ways and Means committees. Rep. Marquart has worked hard on the Omnibus E-12 Education Finance and Policy Bill which seeks to close the achievement gap by creating a 100 percent high school graduation rate, 100 percent career and college readiness by graduation and 100 percent literacy by third grade, all by 2027.

The Chamber is excited to partner with North Dakota State University’s Animal Sciences department, the NDSU Extension Service and the NDSU Ag Experiment Station to hold our first ever BBQ Boot Camp. This unique networking and educational opportunity will introduce attendees to new cooking methods and practices as well as information about agriculture and related activities at NDSU.

BBQ Boot Camp will consist of four individual training sessions on the use of various grills, including gas, charcoal and wood chip, as well as meat products that may not be standard fair for the average griller. Classes are 30 minutes each and participants will get to attend each session during the two hour class. Topics include:

Degree of doneness
Grilling and nutrition
Spices, rubs and marinades
Slow cooking and smoking

At the end of the training, the grills will be opened for participants to try. Meats will include ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, lamb, burgers, pork loin and kabobs. Each attendee will also receive a BBQ Boot Camp book and a meat thermometer from the NDSU Animal Sciences Department.

Cost to attend is $40 for members and $50 for general admission. Space is limited to the first 200 people and registration is required. Also, be sure to stay around after and take part in our Member Appreciation Picnic.
