According to a recent report, millennials could become the most productive generation with the right combination of management and motivation. Millennials, the generation born between 1980 and 1996, are influential by virtue of their sheer numbers and their remarkable cultural and technological impact on society. By 2020, millennials are projected to eclipse the Baby Boomers in size, and currently 58% of the workforce consists of millennials, according to Pew Research. It’s no wonder, then, that organizations and their leaders are realizing the importance of engaging millennials in the workplace.
This is also why retaining employees has never been more imperative. We know that millennials have had a different upbringing than past generations, and that they differ in their expectations of themselves and others. At this session, Tamara Anderson of Dale Carnegie ND and MN and Brein Haugen of Rasmussen College will discuss strategies for understanding and retaining millennials, as we look at qualitative research.

About the Presenters
Haugen has worked at Rasmussen College for the last 10 years and is currently the associate director of admissions. She is also an adjunct faculty member. Haugen has put on various professional development trainings for local organizations on a variety of work-related topics. She is the co-chair for the Workforce and Education subcommittee for The Chamber. Haugen received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from North Dakota State University in 2000. She went on to complete her master’s in industrial and organizational psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Currently, she is completing her Ph.D. in psychology from Capella University. Her dissertation work is focused on millennials and organizational commitment. Haugen is also receiving a Research Fellowship from the Think2Perfom Research Institute in Minneapolis.
Anderson is a team performance strategist at Dale Carnegie Business Group who aligns business strategies and people practices to drive results. She has a passion for performance, works to exceedthe wow factor, powers up organizational culture, loves her clients and expects business results. In a nutshell, she’s the fork in the road where culture and strategy meet. Anderson is a proud graduate of the University of North Dakota, a Certified Dale Carnegie Trainer, Executive Coach and Everything DiSC Facilitator. She brings over 20 years of business, leadership and sales experience to her facilitation.
