The Chamber Supports Half-Cent Sales Tax for Clay County Law Enforcement Center

Moorhead, Minnesota (October 12, 2016) – The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted to support the Clay County half-cent sales tax for the new regional law enforcement center. This joint law enforcement center meets needs that are currently not being met for the Clay County Sheriff’s office and Moorhead Police Department.

The existing facility does not meet the state’s standard requirements and is deemed ineffective for rehabilitation as the oldest jail in the state of Minnesota. The construction of a new correctional facility will address the housing needs of inmates and provide necessary treatment to violators while creating a safe environment for inmates and staff.

“We commend Clay County, the Clay County Sheriff’s office and the Moorhead Police Department for taking a strategic and collaborative approach to address the needs of the community,” said Craig Whitney, Chamber President. “Public safety is a top priority to a thriving metro, and The Chamber is proud to support the half-cent sales tax to provide the funds necessary to keep our community safe.”

“We feel it is imperative to support this measure on the Moorhead ballot this voting season,” said Judd Graham, board chair. “It’s the right thing to do to better serve our community and to make the job easier for the folks who keep us safe.  I urge all to vote yes on this important measure.”
