Chamber Leadership Class Donates to Even Start Family Literacy Program

55 Area Families Receive Coupon Books for Area Attractions

Moorhead, Minnesota (June 23, 2016) – One of The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce’s 2016 Leadership class groups recently completed their Community Change Initiative project, called Kids Play Passport. On June 20, members of the project delivered “passports” to 55 families in the Even Start Family Literacy program with Fargo Public Schools.

The passport includes coupons for free family admission to six area attractions as well as MATBUS passes for the entire family to get around town.

Members of the Kids Play Passport group include Elizabeth Worth, NDSU Graduate School, Amy Ouren, Ulteig, Anna Miller, MSUM Alumni Foundation, Kevin Jordre, Bremer Bank, and Tahralee Sauvageau, Union State Bank.

Jennifer Frueh, coordinator at the Fargo Adult Learning Center & Even Start Family Literacy, said that the families are delighted to have the opportunity to go to different events and experiences in our community, which hasn’t been a possibility for some previously. “Especially hockey,” she said. “They’ve heard about how big it is to our culture, but have never gotten to experience it before.”

Frueh also said that this is also a great learning opportunity for families. Some have never seen a coupon or even perforated paper before. Upcoming classes will teach the families how to use the coupons.

Community Change Initiatives are meant to envision, develop and bring to fruition real and lasting community change in collaboration with others.
