Chamber Opposes Action Taken by Greater North Dakota Chamber

The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce has publicly gone on record in opposition to the billboard campaign by the Greater North Dakota Chamber designed to draw businesses away from Minnesota in lieu of tax increases by the Minnesota legislature.

“We are proud to be a bi-state, regional Chamber with members in Moorhead, Fargo, West Fargo and beyond,” said Chamber President/CEO Craig Whitney. “We believe this campaign is appalling and counterproductive to working together in a collaborative, regional way.”

The Chamber is asking that the Greater North Dakota Chamber take the billboards down. “We are asking Andy Peterson and the Greater North Dakota Chamber to instead work on a collaborative approach to doing business across the region and between our states,” said Whitney. “When both states are successful, it makes for a successful region.”

Whitney noted that The Chamber was unaware of the billboard campaign until the news broke this morning. He reiterated that while we work together on many issues, The Chamber does not take guidance from the state Chamber. “We don’t agree with the tax increases proposed by the Minnesota legislature,” said Whitney. “We’re happy to be constructive when necessary, but this billboard campaign is anything but constructive.”
