Fargo Moorhead, ND/MN (November 1, 2012) – The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber announced a new initiative to promote a military friendly community. The Honor Star program is a way for business organizations and individuals to say thank you to military men and women by displaying an Honor Star sticker on their door, window or car.
Individuals pay an annual investment of $100 to receive the sticker, with funds helping to foster a community of support for the men, women and families of the military through The Chamber’s Military Affairs committee (MAC).
“The Honor Star program is a way for the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo community to say ‘thank you’ for putting their lives on hold to protect our freedoms and liberties,” says Chamber President/CEO Craig Whitney. “Displaying the Honor Star will provide service members and veterans encouragement as they frequent local businesses.”
Along with receiving the symbol of support, Honor Star members will be recognized in Chamber publications and online. Honor Star members will also be invited to attend and participate in military appreciation and awareness events throughout the year.
“I hear a lot of businesses in the community say they support our local military service members, but the Honor Star program gives them a visible way to show it,” says MAC member Jenny BrodKorb of Precision Diagnostic Services, Inc. “Displaying the Honor star next to your Chamber sticker will proudly announce your support and appreciation for our military service members.”
The Honor Star program was developed through The Chamber’s MAC and the logo was designed by BrodKorb. “The Chamber is proud of the great work of our Military Affairs committee,” said Whitney. “I look forward to seeing the community support grow as we recognize the contributions of our service members.”
Developed in 2010, the MAC seeks to show community support for our local military by planning activities to raise awareness in the community. In November 2011, the committee hosted Military Appreciation Day at the NDSU Bison football game, where 450 service members and their families enjoyed free tickets to the game. In July 2012, the committee held Military Appreciation Night at the RedHawks, with over 600 military members and their family in attendance.
The MAC also works to advance public policy that will advance our region’s military units. Many of the committee members are currently involved in the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Air National Guard Support Group, a Chamber led coalition to protect the Happy Hooligans C-27 Spartan mission from federal budget cuts.
The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce is a bi-state, regional federation of over 2,000 private, public and non-profit member firms representing more than 80,000 people. The largest local chamber in North Dakota and Minnesota, The Chamber advocates for a strong metropolitan community and supports the interests of its members, which are located in Cass and Clay Counties and beyond.
