Since 1946, the Fargo Moorhead Community Theatre (FMCT) has been a landmark in the region. “FMCT has allowed anybody of any age who has a desire to audition or volunteer the opportunity to perform in a professional atmosphere”, says executive director Rick Stenseth.
Now FMCT is broadening their identity with the recent branding of The Stage at Island Park. Individually identifying The Stage at Island Park separate from FMCT, the resident production company, has allowed for a surfeit of opportunities. Presentations, speakers, meetings, even graduation parties and school orchestras can each call The Stage at Island Park home. “We want to maximize the utilization of the venue for our community all while following the mission of FMCT” says Stenseth.
The remodel adds an enclosed pavilion to the building that holds anywhere from 60 to 150 depending on the layout and is perfect for business meetings and lunches. The remodel and identification of The Stage at Island Park demonstrate FMCT’s continued efforts to better the community in which it operates.
FMCT credits the community for their past and current successes. The original building was constructed of completely donated materials and labor, along with a gift from Emma K. Herbst. The current renovations include funding donated by Katherine Kilbourne Burgum Trust as well as Doug Burgum, Barbara Burgum and their families. “Business people made this happen,” says Stenseth, “and business people can keep it going.”
Stenseth stressed that the sense of “community” is vital FMCT and the community is what allows FMCT to offer the services it does. Anna Rice, Community Development Coordinator, points to the over 1000 annual volunteers as one reason that FMCT is able to do what it does for the community.
FMCT is excited to bring another exciting lineup of shows to the stage for their 66th season which solidifies FMCT as the oldest and largest community theatre in all of North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. FMCT offers a wide range of family friendly entertainment including; musicals, comedies, dramas, Shakespeare, and children’s theatre.
Through the individual identification of FMCT and The Stage at Island Park and the organization’s effort to continually provide opportunities to its community members, FMCT fulfills its mission of “Providing theatrical and educational opportunities to engage and enrich the greater community.”
