Chamber Supports Extension of Half-Cent Fargo Tax

Fargo Moorhead, ND/MN (May 29, 2012) - The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce supports the extension of the half-cent sales tax for the City of Fargo. The measure will appear on the local June 12, 2012 ballot.

The extension will generate approximately $300 million over the course of its 20 year term for flood mitigation, street improvement and infrastructure for the City of Fargo. The half-cent sales tax is an extension of a tax implemented in 1992. With the extension, the cumulative Fargo sales tax will remain at 2%.

“Flood protection is a top priority of The Chamber and its Board of Directors,” said President and CEO of The Chamber Craig Whitney. “The extension of the half-cent sales tax gives the city much needed funds for flood mitigation to protect our homes and businesses.”

The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce is a bi-state, regional federation of over 2,000 private, public and non-profit member firms representing more than 80,000 people. The largest local chamber in North Dakota and Minnesota, The Chamber advocates for a strong metropolitan community and supports the interests of its members, which are located in Cass and Clay Counties and beyond.
