Chamber Welcomes Health Care Reform Review Committee
Fargo Moorhead, ND/MN (August 2, 2011) - The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber welcomes the North Dakota Legislative Management’s Health Care Reform Review Committee to Fargo. The meeting will be held August 5 in room 126 of Barry Hall, at North Dakota State University’s Downtown Campus. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and adjourn by 4 p.m.
In March of 2010, President Barack Obama signed into law two pieces of legislation that laid the foundation for a multi-year effort to implement health care reform in the United States. The Health Care Reform Review Committee is responsible for providing an implementation proposal of the state provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), as required by federal law, for the Legislative Assembly to consider when it meets in Special Session in November.
Throughout the interim, the committee will establish a firm timeline of required state action, work with the private sector and state agencies to determine the impact of the ACA, determine what state actions are required and the timeline for those actions.
A priority of the Health Care Reform Review Committee is to design North Dakota’s health insurance exchange as part of the proposal for the Legislative Assembly. States have a 2014 deadline to set up an “exchange” that will allow businesses and individuals to shop either collectively or separately for health insurance.
“The Chamber is committed to providing educational opportunities for our members. Having this legislative committee in Fargo provides a rare opportunity to see the process first-hand,” said Chamber President/CEO Craig Whitney. “Health Care reform promises to change the way employers purchase and provide insurance for their employees. Understanding the changes that are coming down the pipeline will be invaluable for employers as they make business decisions.”
The legislative committee meeting is open to the public. For more information on the Health Care Reform Review Committee or other interim studies, visit www.legis.nd.gov.
The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce is a bi-state, regional federation of 2,000 private, public and non-profit member firms representing more than 80,000 people. The largest local chamber in North Dakota and Minnesota, The Chamber advocates for a strong metropolitan community and supports the interests of its members, which are located in Cass and Clay Counties and beyond.
