April 1, 2009
Dear Chamber Members:
"Tough times never last, but tough people do." - Rev. Dr. Robert Schuller
We all know that these are "tough times" for our Chamber, members, community and region as the Flood of 2009 continues. And yet, there have been many wonderful stories like this AP story.
We'll host Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty on Thursday morning, April 2, at 8 a.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott and Moorhead Area Conference Center (no charge - register online at www.fmchamber.com). We have cancelled, postponed or relocated other Chamber events - you can find information on our Web site.
We have established a temporary office location at IdeaOne Telecom Group in south Fargo. We are monitoring our voice and e-mail messages and keeping our Web site up-to-date. If you are a subscriber, you will actually receive your monthly newsletter in the mail this week (some event dates have been updated since in printed). We are processing mail, making deposits and paying bills as best we can in the midst of this mess. We may not be able to return to our offices at The Hjemkomst Center until April 13th, but
will know more about that later this week and will keep you up-to-date at our Web site.
I am attending daily flood meetings in Fargo and Moorhead and checking in at The Hjemkomst Center briefly daily - it is evacuated and closed except for emergency and security purposes. I will be meeting with federal FEMA and SBA officials this week, and you might be interested to know that our Chamber community maps have been requested by the cities of Fargo and Moorhead, the American Red Cross and FEMA. As flood fighting continues and flood recovery planning begins, I will be convening a meeting of flood recovery
resource public partners later this week. using our convening, communicating and referral capacity and our role as a business, community and regional leader. We will also enhance our online resources in this regard as we continue to be a primary resource and referral source for our members, community and region.
We want to sincerely thank our member firms and your employees for your understanding, cooperation, efforts and support in the midst of this historic situation in our community and region. Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures. The selfless sacrifice you and many others have displayed in fighting the flood while serving our community and region have received national attention. We are proud to be your Chamber!
David David K. Martin, CCE President & CEO
Chamber of Commerce of Fargo Moorhead
P.S. We want to hear your stories! If you have a story to tell, someone to thank or are a flood recovery resource, please let us know so that we can compile these for our newsletter, annual report and Web site and so that we can make proper referrals as flood recovery begins. Please send this information to email@example.com.
