Abundant Interest Fuels Launch of Military Affairs Chamber Group
Fargo Moorhead, ND/MN (December 6, 2010) – The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce launches its Military Affairs committee this week with nearly 50 people already signed on to the group.
The first meeting of the committee will be held Thursday, December 9 at 10 a.m. at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead. Registration is required.
“Our nation’s armed forces, and more specifically, our military neighbors, are actively engaged in conflicts around the world,” said Chamber President Craig Whitney. “As the state’s largest coalition of business leaders, this Chamber will do what we can to support our enlisted soldiers as well as our honorable veterans.”
The Chamber has a history of supporting the area’s military forces. In 2005, the Chamber played a prominent role in retaining Fargo’s National Guard base through the Base Realignment and Closure process. “Launching this committee is a way to take that support to the next level,” said Whitney.
According to the North Dakota National Guard, the total combined economic impact of the North Dakota Army National Guard and North Dakota Air National Guard on our local economy is nearly $65 million. Statewide, that number jumps to $217.7 million.
“We are very fortunate that we live in a community where we have a large presence of military service men and women,” said Chair of the committee Delton Steele, Vice President/Senior Lender of U.S. Bank. “The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce deems it necessary to focus energy and resources to build this committee. Our community greatly benefits from the significant presence of friends and neighbors who serve our country within our area.”
