This year, the Chamber’s Youth Leadership program will celebrate the program’s 15-year anniversary with a ribbon cutting ceremony, local service projects and a service tour of Minnesota.
Sixty area high school students will board two buses headed for different parts of Minnesota on a five-day “Pay It Forward Tour.” Youth Leadership students, their parents, program sponsors and Chamber members will gather at 12:30 p.m. on August 2 in the Hjemkmost Center parking lot to rally and board the buses.
Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker and Moorhead Mayor Mark Voxland will speak before the students load their buses.
In honor of Youth Leadership’s 15th anniversary, students will begin their tour with local service projects at three locations around the FM area. Joined by representatives from Starion Financial and Bremer Bank, students will work with Fargo Housing Authority at two locations, painting and repairing playground equipment for low income housing. Local service projects will begin at 1:30 p.m.
The service tour is possible through a continuing collaboration with Students Today Leaders Forever (STLF), an organization of students who engage in servant leadership to create positive life experiences. Students will serve in four Minnesota communities, visit college campuses and businesses, and explore some of Minnesota’s treasures. The tour will focus on service, education and reflection, and will challenge the students to continue their leadership in their home community.
